Fall 2024 Symposium - Friday, September 20th (Day before World Alzheimer’s Day)

Importance of Self Care for Care Partners

The Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders Outreach Program will host a hybrid (in-person and virtual) symposium which focuses on the importance of self care. Care partners may feel guilty or selfish for prioritizing their own needs. It would help if care partners understood that exercising self care assists the care partner to be more balanced, focused, and productive. Maintaining one's physical and emotional health will undoubtedly prepare a person to deal with the difficulties associated with caring for someone they care about.

Details about the speakers and location will be announced at a later date.

Symposium content is curated towards care partners.

Spring 2025 Symposium - March 2025

Care Partner Forum

People with dementia and their care partners have numerous questions when facing unforeseen problems. Join us as a panel of multidisciplinary specialists takes questions from the audience. Local community partners that provide information on dementia care will also be present. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain practical knowledge and resources on various important concerns.

The live in-person event includes a free break-out activity session for those with an early-stage mild cognitive impairment. However, space in the breakout session is limited, and some restrictions apply.  Those interested in having someone with mild cognitive impairment participate in the breakout session must contact DeDe Berry directly either by emailing Dorothy.Berry@DignityHealth.org or calling 602-406-5916.

Brain Health Workshop and Community Memory Screening Opportunity

As leading experts in the field of brain health and memory disorders, this program aims to educate community members about the lifestyle habits that promote brain health and encourage healthy aging based on the latest research. Participants will learn directly from one of our Physicians in the Alzheimer's and Memory Disorders Program about common changes in memory and brain function that occur with age,  and how these differ from symptoms that may indicate a potential cognitive or memory disorder.  In addition to the workshop presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, and schedule a 30-minute memory screening with a member of the Barrow Neurological Institute team.

*The memory screening consists of a series of questions that evaluate memory and other thinking skills. Memory screening are intended for informational purposes only, and are not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. All results will remain confidential, and will not be available after the conclusion of each session.
